Camping Haunted Nevada

Where We Roam

Camping Haunted Nevada

Truck Camping in Tonopah Nevada, one of the most HAUNTED old mining towns in the state!

We hit the backroads of Nevada to explore old mining towns, listened to stories about the wild west and ran into some spooky stuff along the way.👻

Weekend Itinerary

Goldfield, Nevada

Goldfield, Nevada is about 2.5 hours away from Vegas and is home to the International Car Forest of the Last Church as well as the oldest (continually) operating business/bar in the state – Santa Fe Saloon. We also heard stories that the Goldfield hotel is haunted.

After Goldfield, we checked out the Alkali Hot Springs 20 minutes away (which were actually REALLY hot). The springs were so hot that we could barely dip our toes in. We ended up putting our feet in a secondary pond which was a tad cooler (and much grimier).

Tonopah, Nevada

We continued on our journey toward Tonopah, where we checked out the following places:

1. Clown Motel – featured on an episode of Ghost Adventures with Zak Bagans (season 10, episode 7). This quirky motel has a collection of over 2,000 clowns from all over the world in it’s lobby, as well as a variety of spooky clown-themed rooms that you can stay in. Even spookier, during the Ghost Adventures episode, the ghost hunters were investigating the main hotel lobby and one of the life-size clowns’ hand moved from its lap to its side on its own. 😱 This same clown is featured on our video, its the big clown sitting on the chair in the middle of the room. To add to the overall creepiness of the motel, the property sits directly next to the town’s oldest cemetery.

2. Tonopah Brewing Co. – A place to come for awesome beer, good food and great service! We chatted with a couple of bartenders who have their own stories to tell about creepy encounters in the town. These bartenders were just a couple of the many friendly and welcoming people we met in Tonopah.

3. Mizpah Hotel – Voted the #1 most Haunted Hotel in the U.S! After our multiple visits to the hotel and listening to the stories from the people who’ve stayed/worked there, I’d agree with this statement! We took a few interesting pictures shown in the video during our short time there.

The Mizpah Hotel is such a interesting place with a lot of rich history, including multiple deaths.. We walked around the hotel floors, which are open to the public. Just be quiet in the halls since there are hotel guests staying there. Hotel room rates weren’t bad either if your ever in the mood to stay the night in one of the most haunted hotels in America 🙂 During the month of October, they host tours for $10 per person. During the tour you are taken down into the basement, where you can see the old safe (2 men were murdered here after a bank robbery gone wrong! You also learn about the infamous Lady in Red, a woman who was murdered on the 5th floor and is said to actively haunt the hotel. The Lady in Red is known to light up an old Keno machine while it is unplugged. She is also said to sit on the edge of the bed of hotel guests and even touch some of the guests. It seemed like everyone we talked to in Tonopah had stories about working at the Mizpah Hotel.

4. Haunted House at an Abandoned Hospital – For an entry fee of one can of food per person, we didn’t expect much. But we were blown away at how well this haunted house was set up and how creepy it was! The old medical building which closed down earlier this year was turned into a maze with plenty of jump scares and strobe lights. Definitely not for the faint of the heart!

The Friendliest Donkeys of Beatty, Nevada

CAMP

We ended up camping about 10 minutes right outside of Tonopah, past the Star Gazing park and into BLM land down a dirt road. This was an okay area to camp, we were on the top of a hill which produced a bone chilling, steady wind for the majority of the night.

The next morning, we left camp early to grab breakfast in town and ended up (yet again) at the Mizpah. We dined at Pittman Café downstairs which had decent food, nothing extravagant, but none the less was a great time. We loved walking around the hotel and seeing all the old artifacts/pictures. We left Tonopah and drove through Beatty, NV on the way back to Las Vegas. Beatty has many friendly donkeys that can be found roaming around town. These donkeys are not shy and will happily welcome you to their town.
