Driving from Alaska to Nevada

In August 2019, we moved from our home town of Anchorage, Alaska and drove all the way down to Las Vegas Nevada.

It took us about 7 days to drive from Anchorage, Alaska to Las Vegas, Nevada. We booked it through Canada due to their COVID restrictions. Here is our list of stops along the way w/ drive hours and where we stayed.

We had pets with us (1 Dog, 2 cats) so we have to find places to stay that allowed pets.

Canada is no joke driving through – the number one thing you need is REASON. Carly got a job in Nevada so we had some papers printed out as proof of why we have to drive through Canada.

We researched that Canadian border patrol may want to know where you plan on staying while your in Canada (our border patrol officer never asked us about this) but we had the papers ready just in the case they asked.

Also, since we had animals with us, we also had their vaccines printed out just in case they asked (but they didnt).

It was pretty nerve racking going through border patrol but be polite, answer their questions and DONT FORGET YOUR PASSPORT! 🙂 We were nervous about getting turned away and having to drive all the way back to Anchorage (6/7 hours backtracking) and they never searched our U-Haul either which was convenient (not that we had anything to hide in there anyway).

Getting back into the US from Canada was so easy, the US border patrol looked at our passports for 2 seconds and let us through no questions asked.

Hopefully next time we do this drive we can take our time through Canada and hit all the stops we initially planned before COVID.
