What to do (And Know) before visiting Gold Butte National Monument

One of the newest National Monuments in the US, established in 2016. Gold Butte has a lot to offer! From beautiful scenery, wildlife to petroglyphs and a TON of boondocking/dry camp spots. This was a great place to explore!

Before you go: there is NO Cell service out there so download the maps for Gold Butte prior to your trip! I use GAIA but you do need an upgraded subscription to download maps on the app. There are also NO services (toilets, water, gas, etc) Pack everything in that you need and Pack everything OUT (ex. Trash, etc) Also bring sunscreen because this area can get HOT. In the video below, we visit during April and temps were around the 80s during the day and 60s at night (probably the last time we will be going to Gold Butte until next Fall!)

There is no entrance fee into the park which is nice 🙂

Slot Canyon 1 “Red Bluff Spring” – we hiked about 6 miles round trip but you can hike as far in as you want into the slot canyon (it’s a there and back hike). Coordinates: 36.462779, -114.251603

7 Keyholes Canyon (Highly recommend) – it’s a short hike ~2 miles in total for the full loop through the slot canyons and see all the petroglyphs inside. Coordinates: 36.434295, -114.224297
